Legendary maestro Zubin Mehta will be conducting the Australian World Orchestra in a spectacular performance of three of Richard Strauss' tone poems.

Once a year, the Australian World Orchestra brings together the finest Australian musicians from around the world to perform as an all-star ensemble under the baton of the great conductors of our time.

Strauss' tone poems are among the most striking works of the orchestral repertoire. The descriptive power of these compositions is intended to both inspire and move listeners, taking the concept of realism in music to an unprecedented level.

Covid-safe information

The health and safety of everyone at the Opera House is our top priority. In line with the NSW Public Health Order, a number of Covid-safe measures are in place for the safety and wellbeing of everyone on site:

  • Patrons and visitors aged 16 years and over entering the building or attending the Opera House’s bars and restaurants are required to show they are fully vaccinated unless lawfully exempt (under 16s not fully vaccinated must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated adult from their household). Check-in processes will be in place for verifying proof of vaccination;

  • QR code check-in – all patrons and their guests must continue to check-in upon entry with the Service NSW QR code; 

  • Face masks are required for patrons aged 12 years and over while inside our foyers and theatres unless lawfully exempt. We highly recommend children aged 11 years and younger wear a mask at all times;

  • Theatre capacities – performances are being sold to 100% capacity in line with the NSW Public Health Order. This includes all shows in the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Studio, Playhouse, Drama Theatre and Utzon Room. Please note that you will be seated directly alongside other ticketholders; 

  • Well maintained and effective air conditioning systems that maximise ventilation with fresh air;  

  • Regular cleaning of high-traffic and high-touch areas with hospital-grade disinfectant;

  • Hand sanitiser stations with Dettol Aloe Vera Gel are available in paths of travel, frequently accessed areas and near bathroom facilities; and

  • Covid-19 safety training for all operational, frontline and contract staff, as well as on-site Covid-19 Safe Hygiene Marshals.

We are closely following all NSW Government guidelines and will continue to update our procedures in consideration of the NSW Public Health Orders prevailing at the time. Please check this page prior to attending the Opera House for the most up-to-date information.
