Wednesday 26 January 2022 from 7:30am to 8:30am
The ceremony and much of the Sydney program is guided by First Nations representatives and features many First Nations artists showcasing the richness and historical significance of culture through modern and meaningful performances.
The event is also co-curated with the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council.
Morning ceremonies have been a significant part of the Sydney Australia Day program since 2003 with the establishment of the ‘Woggan-ma-gule’ ceremony. Over the past 18 years, the program has evolved, just as the robust and important conversation around First Nations people has also progressed. The ceremonial aspects of WugulOra commemorate the past and celebrate a diverse culture.
The community is given the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding, to reflect on and respect our nation’s shared history and be immersed in First Nations cultural traditions and storytelling.
The event will also be broadcast live on ABC TV and son ABC iview from 7:30am to 8:30am on Wednesday, 26 January 2022.
