When the dust settled

When The Dust Settled is a never-before-seen collection of 186 black and white photographs by Sydney photographer North Sullivan, documenting the week following the September 11 attacks. In honour of the 25th anniversary of that day.

Rather than focusing on Ground Zero, the exhibition captures the people and communities of New York in the aftermath, from the hundreds of missing-person posters covering the city to moments of grief, solidarity, hope and resilience. 

The series offers an intimate perspective on how an extraordinary city processed tragedy and began its journey towards recovery.

When The Dust Settled will be open to the public at The Photo Studio, Glebe, from 11th September to 2nd November 2026, Wednesday to Sunday, 10 am until 4 pm.
