This online Vietnamese beginner's course is the perfect course to start your journey and build a solid foundation. Here you'll learn how to communicate in Vietnamese in a relaxed, practical, and interactive class.

Explore how to have conversations with simple vocabulary and basic sentences while being introduced to the beautiful Vietnamese culture. Vietnamese is a tonal language, so our professional tutor will help you to train your ears so you can recognise the different tones that can change the meaning of a word.

At the end of this Vietnamese beginners course, you will have acquired several essential language skills - enough to have a basic conversation with someone from Vietnam.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this Vietnamese beginners course, you should be able to

  • Recognise and speak the different tones, and understand how they correspond to the letters in the Vietnamese alphabet

  • Understand the differences between the North and South Vietnamese accents

  • Greet people and introduce yourself and others

  • Ask for and give directions

  • Ask for information about travel, places and people’s professions

  • Count in Vietnamese, including lower numbers, as well as the larger numbers used in currency

  • Talk about modes of transport, travel times, distance, etc

  • Use the past, present, and future tense

  • Ask the price of an item or service

  • Use prepositions to describe things

  • Tell the time and talk about different times of the day, mealtimes and routines, etc.

  • Say the days of a week and months of the year

  • Use the rules of simple grammar to ask why, when, where questions

  • Understand the Vietnamese culture and use appropriate etiquette when communicating in Vietnamese

  • Enhanced your career prospects
