The Irish harp is known for its rich, lyrical melodies, intricate ornamentation, and connection to ancient Celtic traditions. In contrast, the Paraguayan harp is a vibrant, rhythmic instrument, featuring lively glissandos, tremolos, and percussive strumming, bringing the energy of Latin American folk music to life. While the Irish harp evokes a sense of history and poetic beauty, the Paraguayan harp pulses with dance-like rhythms and expressive passion, making both styles equally mesmerizing in their own right.

Clíona Molins is a harp player, teacher and composer. She was classically trained in Dublin at the Royal Irish Academy of Music where she studied both the Irish and Concert Harp. In Sydney, she collaborated with many diverse musicians (Riley Lee, Victor Valdes, Baran Yildiz) in the classical and folk realms and has released four CDs of harp music. Hear her recent interview with Andrew Ford on ABC RN’s The Music Show.

Originally from Chile, Freddy completed most of his harp studies in Paraguay with Ruben Cabrera Cubilla and today is one of Australia’s finest proponents of Paraguayan and other Latin harp traditions. He has also performed widely all over Australia and New Zealand, charming audiences wherever he plays.
