Two-Day Printmaking Skills and Expansion Workshop

This two-day workshop is designed to expand your practice through printmaking while encouraging play and experimentation. No prior experience is needed as every process is demonstrated step by step, with take-home notes provided. Expect to create a stack of prints, learn multiple new skills, and discover fresh ways of making.

Printmaking opens up creativity by welcoming chance and experimentation. Join local artist Katika Schultz to explore accessible techniques, create hybrid prints, and leave with a collection of your own unique works.

Across the two days, you’ll be introduced to a range of methods including:

• Monotype + watercolour monotype

• Etching + chine colle 

• Origami monoprint + image transfer + experimental techniques

There will be ample opportunity to combine methods and develop your own layered, original prints.

Classes are kept small to assure each student gets attention, students can ask questions and receive guidance throughout the two days. 

Please note: Staple print etiquette and methods will be briefly explained but are not the focus of this workshop; this workshop is about play, seeing things differently and freeing up stagnancy.

Morning tea and all materials are provided, so all you will need to bring are:

• A sketch book, pencil or something to write and draw with

• An apron (and/or wear clothes you don’t mind getting inky)

• Your lunch (however there are plenty of great cafes and a supermarket nearby)

• Your questions, eagerness and curiosity

• Optional: your favourite printmaking paper.

Katika Schultz holds a BFA in Printmaking from the National Art School and has been teaching for the past three years. She regularly exhibits across Sydney, including at Tiliqua Tiliqua, and has been a recipient of many art residencies and a finalist in major Australian art prizes. Passionate about accessibility, education, and experimentation, she encourages artists to embrace play, discovery, and the unique qualities of printmaking.
