Cultural Baggage is a compelling body of oil paint works by Sydney-based painter Tracey Jones, being shown in CBD Gallery. This show explores the emotional residue of everyday objects.

With meticulous realism, Jones turns her attention to the overlooked fragments of consumer culture – wrinkled packaging, torn paper, and disposable wrappers – rendered with delicate brushwork that honours every fold and fray. These ephemeral items, once mundane, are reimagined as vessels of memory and meaning.

Tracey Jones is a Sydney based artist who graduated from Bachelor of Fine Art, Honours – 1st Class at RMIT University in 2022. Her work explores the notion that materials are imbued with memory, and her practice investigates the affective power of objects when incorporated into figurative and still-life imagery. Collecting and preserving objects that once served as quiet backdrops to daily life has become fundamental to her practice.
