In Pieces: A solo exhibition by Talia Iaconis

This exhibition will host a volume of paintings on canvas and on timber – freestanding sculptures.

Talia is drawn to nature’s vibrating energy as it gives her a sense of freedom. Her images range from ocean to treescapes. Both places provide a sense of solace. Being alone in nature is extremely cathartic, a restorative environment where she draws connections on a personal level.

Talia states, “I am fascinated by forms of natural timber which I use to paint on. The beauty of wood is it engages all our senses. The warmth and rich surface has a tactile and sensuous strength and the depth of the individual grains delight the eye. I relish the beautiful grains that seep through the painting and I work with it.”

Talia predominantly uses mixed media as she likes the combination of wet and dry materials. At times she draws back into the wet paint or scratches the surface with a metal implement. She says mixed media allows her to push through those conventional boundaries, as it is expressive and a correlation of her subject matter.

All her works are a visual journal of places she has visited. The pieces she creates draw her to special memories, taking her to a sense of space that gives her such tranquillity, and hopes it will take her audience there too.
