From sold-out monthly shows in Clovelly Bowlo to a line-up of guests that have included Tim Rogers, Justine Clarke, Don Walker, iOTA and Kate Ceberano, the Starfish Club is Sydney’s best-kept musical secret. Now, the local institution is bringing its shimmering jazz sound to a special Sydney Festival show featuring the acclaimed vocalist Dannielle De Andrea (aka Gaha).

Led by Jonathan Zwartz on double bass and Hamish Stuart on drums, the legendary Starfish rhythm is joined by pianist Bill Risby and guitar prodigy Oliver Thorpe laying down the grooves, with special guest De Andrea bringing her musical beauty to a jazz and pop sensibility.

In a storied career that has seen her work alongside John Farnham and perform with artists including Jackson Browne, Tom Jones, Sting, Kylie Minogue and Ariana Grande, De Andrea has showcased her emotional range and unforgettable vocals – talents that moved American Idol judge Randy Jackson to declare her “One of Australia’s best singers. Ever.”

  • "[Her] voice could quell riots and romance tyrants." – Drum Media [on Dannielle De Andrea]

  • "Sensationally exciting and beautiful solos... over surging, driving, rocking and sometimes static choirs of ensemble sound." – Australian Jazz [on Zwartz/Stuart’s Starfish band]
