For the first time anywhere in the world, the public is invited to experience Postcards from Antarctica.

Created aboard the final Homeward Bound voyage to Antarctica in 2025, Postcards from Antarctica is a collaborative artwork developed by 124 women and non-binary people working across science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM). Together, they transformed 132 individual postcards into a single large-scale illustrated map of Antarctica, each accompanied by a handwritten message reflecting on the experience, leadership and our shared future.

Join us during National Science Week as this remarkable artwork makes its world premiere at the Chau Chak Wing Museum.

More than an exhibition, the evening offers a chance to experience Antarctica through the stories of the people who travelled there. Alongside the artwork, visitors will be able to explore immersive 360-degree virtual reality footage captured during the expedition, hear from members of the project team about creating the artwork in Antarctica, and enjoy a series of short talks and conversations exploring Antarctic science, environmental stewardship and the role of creativity in helping people connect with places they may never visit.

The evening will include:

  • The world premiere of Postcards from Antarctica

  • Immersive virtual reality footage filmed in Antarctica

  • Artist reflections and stories from the expedition

  • Short talks exploring Antarctic science and environmental communication

  • A panel discussion with invited speakers

  • Opportunities to meet the artists and continue the conversation following the formal program

Whether you are interested in science, conservation, art or Antarctica itself, this free event offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s most extraordinary places through the perspectives of those who have stood on its shores.

For those who cannot experience the artwork in person, a digitised version has been created at www.postcardsfromantarctica.studio for anyone to explore, along with stories of the voyage and the creation of the artwork itself.
