Duende, or ‘tener duende’ (having duende) translates in Spanish as having soul, a heightened sense of emotion, expression and heart. It refers to spirit in Spanish, Portuguese and Filipino folklore and literally means ‘ghost’ or ‘goblin’ in Spanish.
Passionate Spanish flamenco guitarist, Paco Lara has a distinguished international career in Europe and Australia of more than 30 years. He launches his new album, Duende, with a Spanish Flamenco show featuring the finest music from Spain and Australia.
Based in Australia since 2017, Lara was inspired to produce his dream collaborative musical project Duende to bring to life his compositions and the fusion of cultures inspired by his hometown, Jerez in the south of Spain – the heartland of the tradition of flamenco.
Paco Lara: Artistic director and flamenco guitarist
Special guest flamenco dancer: Sebastián Sánchez
Featuring: flamenco dancers Deya Miranda Giner and Lauren Majarrés; vocalist Angela Rosero; percussionist & pianist Byron Mark.
Lara embodies the unmistakeable Jerez style of flamenco guitar playing in all its authenticity, culture and imagination. The virtuoso flamenco guitarist has toured internationally alongside Spain’s best-known artists, composers and maestros of flamenco, including Maestro Paco Cepero (one of flamenco’s most legendary guitarists and composers), Mercedes Ruiz (dancer) and Isabel Pantoja (vocalist). In Spain Lara has been at the vanguard of flamenco fusion with hugely successful groups including El Barrio and Los Delinquentes.
With recent tours in 2021 and 2023 at Adelaide Guitar Festival, packed-out concerts at the Sydney Opera House in 2021, and his national tour with the Andalusian Guitar Show in 2022, the exciting flamenco cultural and musical collaboration of Duende is highly anticipated.
