Part of NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week 2022 at the Art Gallery of NSW

When

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, 10am to 5pm Wednesdays, 10am to 9pm Sunday 3 July 2022 to Friday 8 July 2022

Held each year in July, NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

The 2022 theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – is a call to action. It compels all of us to come together to continue to fight for a better future. We can all speak up for institutional, structural, collaborative and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations before us.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week 2022, visitors are invited join us at the Art Gallery of New South Wales for a special Art After Hours on 6 July featuring music from Thungutti singer-songwriter Jimmy Kyle, of Melbourne alternative band Chasing Ghosts, a poetry performance by Brooke Scobie and Luke Patterson and a talk with NRL legend Dean Widders.

Families can drop into an art-making workshop between 3 and 8 July, inspired by the art of Daniel Boyd, or pick up a children’s trail brochure for the exhibitions Daniel Boyd: Treasure IslandLocal Rhythms and Actions and Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2022.

Explore the work of Aboriginal artists on display throughout the Art Gallery, including a record-breaking 27 works in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes, among them this year’s Archibald Prize–winning portrait by Blak Douglas of Wiradjuri artist Karla Dickens.

All events are free, as is entry to the Art Gallery and most displays and exhibitions. You’ll need to buy a timed ticket to see Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2022.
