Making brings together educators, makers and industry practitioners to explore how specialist knowledge is preserved, adapted and transmitted through communities of practice. This is a panel discussion followed by a practical demonstration and audience activity exploring specialist fashion, costume, millinery and textile making practices. The event examines skills that are becoming increasingly rare within contemporary education and industry. Responding to Sydney Craft Week's theme of COMMUNITY, the conversation considers the role of institutions, makers, educators and cultural organisations in maintaining material knowledge and ensuring specialist practices remain visible, accessible and relevant for future generations.
