Our resident mender, Celia Callow, has been a Reverse Garbage visitor for over 30 years.
With a deep respect for existing resources, an antipathy to waste, and a passionate commitment to creative reuse, she has offered to host a limited series of Make, Mend and Repair sessions in our new education space.
Over 4 weeks (2 hours each), Celia will provide an opportunity for like-minded folks to get together, learn mending skills, and discuss ways to reduce their own eco-footprint, as well of those of their communities.
The focus will be on extending the life of clothing and household textiles, investigating and creating alternatives to single-use items for your home, and finding creative ways to reuse items that are beyond repair. Celia will help share new ideas and empower you to have a positive mindset and live more sustainably.
These Make, Mend and Repair sessions are open to adults of all ages (17+), genders and skill levels. Reverse Garbage is looking forward to enjoying, gentle mornings powered by cookies and goodwill.
If you’ve never used a sewing machine before but would like to try, this is your opportunity to do so. Celia will be hands-on to teach basic mending skills and offer suggestions on how you can repair your existing items, either by hand or using one of her two vintage sewing machines.
