Sensational guitarist (and frustrated traveller) Andrew Blanch presents an intimate journey that pairs his love of the culture and music of Europe and Latin America. Presented in the iconic Ken Done Gallery, the program will include works by Vivaldi, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Piazzolla and more!
Andrew Blanch is a leading exponent of the classical guitar in Australia. His first prize at the Adelaide International Guitar Competition in 2019 adds to more than 10 prizes in music competitions here and abroad. His accolades go on to include multiple nominations for the Freedman Fellowship, and support from both Create NSW and the Australia Council for new commissioning projects. Andrew was recently featured on the front cover of Limelight Magazine’s October 2019 edition in an article on 30 rising stars of Australian classical music.
Andrew has released 2 commercial recordings, solo album Spanish Guitar Music in 2015 received by Soundboard Magazine (USA) as “one of the best debut albums I’ve ever heard”, and guitar duets album Alchemy in 2020 released on the ABC Classic label and peaking at number 2 on the ARIA Core Classical Albums chart.
In addition to his solo activities, Andrew has worked extensively with Ariel Nurhadi, The José Carbó Trio, harpist Emily Granger and has forthcoming tours with Ensemble Offspring and pianist/composer Daniel Rojas. Andrew is a keen exponent of new Australian music and has commissioned works from Daniel Rojas, Felicity Wilcox, Robert Davidson, Jessica Wells and Elena Kats-Chernin.
