Gallery LNL is pleased to present Surrounds, an exhibition featuring new works by Isabella Edwards, on view from 14 November through 13 December, 2025.

Places surround us. The places of Isabella Edwards’ memories surround her ceramics. As painted landscapes and interiors, they wrap the surfaces of her vessels, like the empty train tracks of Koolewong Station. Edwards grew up in St. Albans, rural NSW, and lives now on the Central Coast. Working from her photographic practice, she titrates and combines the natural beauty and human everyday of both areas. The backyard on Laundry Day where towels sag along the clothesline over green grass. In these places, Edwards finds the surroundings ripe for memory and remembering.

Since, like vessels, places hold memory. For her it is the inner space of her painted vessels in which memories are held. Edwards gently separates these two capacities of place, to surround and to hold, whilst showing the impossibility of a clean cut. In this sense, Edwards’ work might be termed landscape ceramics, emphasising both her use of painting to surround and of ceramics to hold in her very personal study of place and memory.
