Introduction to garment making - Knit wrap

If you've always wanted to make your own clothes, this is the class for you.

You'll begin by looking at the sewing pattern for the wrap. Your teacher will explain the pattern in detail, you'll cover what the grainline is, how to cut the pattern to your size, and what notches are. From here, the teacher will guide you through how to fold your fabric and place the pattern correctly for the cutting process.

We recommend knitted fabric for this garment, so it's the perfect session to practice sewing stretch! Fabric suggestions and where to buy will be sent in the order confirmation email.

Once your fabric is cut, you'll be shown how to overlock the raw edges, a very important step in garment making.

By the time you've finished overlocking your fabric, it'll be time for a 30 minute break. Most students enjoy venturing out of the studio to grab a coffee and a quick bite to eat.

After break time, you'll come back feeling refreshed, ready for the second half. Your teacher will begin by guiding you through the sewing machine, you'll learn all about the dials and buttons, how to wind the bobbin and thread the machine. Once your sewing machine is set up and ready to go, you'll have a practice run and begin sewing your garment. This is the step where it all comes together!

Once your garment is finished, it's time to try it on and have a look in the mirror! 

You'll leave feeling a great sense of achievement and proud of your first garment.

Please note:

• This class is for Adults only. Under 18s will not be able to enter the venue, this includes babies. There are no refunds or rescheduling options for participants who take up a space and arrive with someone under the age of 18.

• Participants should already be able to thread the sewing machine independently for this class. If you need an introduction to the sewing machine, please come to our Sewing For Beginners class first.
