Thursday 14 March from 2:30pm to 4pm
Our past lady mayoresses of Sydney navigated their public life and civic duties with style, care and dedication. To celebrate International Women’s Day, be inspired by their stories to create a personalised hand-printed tote bag.
We have prepared some lovely laser cut wood block designs inspired by the City's Lady Mayoresses.
Utilise images sourced from the City's Civic collection including historic fashion items worn by past lady mayoresses and archival photographs of design features found in Sydney Town Hall, including the building’s stunning stained glass windows, tiles, wood carvings and mosaics.
You will select and and print a design of your choice and use coloured inks to personalise your own calico tote bag to take home. This fun workshop for beginners explores traditional printmaking techniques in our fully equipped Makerspace studio.
Explore our free International Women's Day talk by City of Sydney historian, Nicole Cama, who'll share stories about past lady mayoresses of Sydney in the Ideas Space at Darling Square Library directly before this workshop, 1pm-2pm. Bookings are essential for both events.
