Hear University of Sydney researchers, academics and alumni share their big ideas at Raising the Bar.

An Australian suffers a heart attack every nine minutes. But heart disease is largely preventable, if we can identify modifiable risk factors and manage them well. Researchers have now created an algorithm that can predict one’s risk of developing a heart attack or stroke in the next five years.

In this talk, University of Sydney alumni Natalie Raffoul from the National Heart Foundation explains how a new predictive tool uses nine variables, including your post code, to help detect heart disease risk factors early. Discover the tools and information that can help you prevent heart disease.

About the speaker

Natalie Raffoul is passionate about the prevention and management of chronic disease in Australia. Natalie manages healthcare programs and clinical strategy at the National Heart Foundation. Her work has involved designing, building and scaling health programs that seek to improve the early detection and management of cardiovascular disease.

Most recently, Natalie’s programs have driven over 800,000 Australians to see their GP for a life-saving preventative Heart Health Check. Natalie has a background as a clinical cardiology pharmacist and the CVD & Diabetes Clinical Lead at NPS MedicineWise.
