Award-winning composer, improviser and guitarist Hilary Geddes leads a quartet comprised of a new generation of improvisers.
Featuring the stellar Maximillian Alduca (double bass), Alexander Inman-Hislop (drums) and Matt Harris (piano), Hilary Geddes Quartet will be premiering new material from a forthcoming album supported by the 2021 Freedman Jazz Fellowship. Geddes is also the recipient of the 2019 Jann Rutherford Memorial Award and the 2020 ABC Jazz Scholarship, which enabled her to record and release Hilary Geddes Quartet’s acclaimed debut album, Parkside with ABC Jazz in 2021. Nominated for an AIR Award, Parkside is an album full of evocative sonic landscapes that showcases both the quartet’s freewheeling spirit and beautiful synchronicity.
Hilary Geddes Quartet will perform at Phoenix Central Park on Tuesday 3 September 2024.
Free tickets via ballot only.
“Geddes shone as both player and composer, guiding the band from ebullient odd-metered themes to more exploratory exchanges where the band members engaged in freewheeling musical conversations.” — Jessica Nicholas, The Age
“Geddes does not shy away from using the guitar as a compositional tool, leaning into the idiosyncrasies of her instrument and exploiting its strengths… Rarely do we hear such a clear artistic concept from a musician’s first solo release.” — Stephen Hornby, Australian Jazz
"...amidst the creak of a double bass and the rush of brushed cymbals and Geddes comes alive. Her dizzying, inventive guitar parts leave jaws on the jazz-club floor." — David James Young, Junkee
"...a discerning sonic sculptor..." — John Shand, SMH
