The connection between Poland and Australia may be stronger than you think. Polish people have been arriving in Australia since the 1800s, with mass waves of immigration in the late 1950s and 1980s. With such a large diaspora, much of Polish culture and customs have lived on through many first, second, and up to fifth-generation Polish Australians. Yet, some people know very little about their Polish heritage. In this practical, interactive session, we will be exploring:
The history of the Polish immigration to Australia
Documents available in Australian and Polish archives
Where to begin when researching your own family history
Storytelling as a way to explore your family heritage
