Jazz and contemporary classic trio, Ephemera will present an intimate performance of their unique and captivating musical exploration of celestial landscapes on Wednesday 14 May at Marrickville venue, Lazy Bones Lounge Level 1.

The evening will kick-off with an opening set by jazz saxophonist Payge Eminovski, who has played with groups such as the Eunuchs, Olinda Quartet, Eminovski/Inman-Hislop, the Payge Eminovski Quartet and on various recording sessions.

Ephemera, led by Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute/compositions) with Elsen Price (double bass/loop pedal), Will Gilbert (trumpet) and special guest Jodie Michael (drum set) will then perform pieces merging the sound worlds of jazz and contemporary classical, and set to real space sounds and projections.

The performance includes freely improvised pieces, with NASA recordings of electromagnetic waves from planets and stars compiled by astronomer Professor Paul Francis often with projections of space probe footage. Each member brings their own unique voice to the ensemble, drawing from a multitude of musical backgrounds to create a distinctive sound world that organically reacts to stellar concepts – universe and universality.

The Sydney Morning Herald says, “Ephemera is always outward-reaching conceptually... The quartet can achieve a surprisingly orchestral sweep... music of peculiar depth and mystery that somehow evades the laws of gravity.”

Limelight Magazine described Ephemera’s most recent album as, “Terrific, rich, pulsating and reverberant... sophisticated and compelling... vivid and colourful.”

Formed in 2015, Ephemera have performed internationally and around Australia, including six concerts in Japan in early 2025, featured at MONA Evenings Series, Extended Play Festival of New Music at City Recital Hall and Sydney International Womens' Jazz Festival, Foundry 616, Red Rattler, Woodburn Creatives and Melbourne's Uptown Jazz Cafe and many more.

The Lazy Bones doors will open at 7pm and the event will start at 8pm.
