Every day, 10am to 4pm Thursday 8 July 2021 to Friday 9 July 2021
Experiment with layering, drawing, scraping, carving and embedding exercises.
This intermediate class will focus on producing a body of work with a narrative of your choice and requires some previous experience in encaustic painting.
The class starts with a refresher on the basics of transferring and/or embedding photocopied images as well as examples of mixed media applications with a variety of wax absorbing papers and tissues.
Students will start by developing their own narrative through a series of studies on the first day on 20 x 20 wood boards by applying layers of encaustic medium, transferring images, creating depth and transparencies.
Students will progress and develop a 3D format wooden piece provided by the instructor and apply learnings to create a finished piece.
Encaustic painting is one of the oldest painting techniques in the history of art and this 2-day course brings a contemporary perspective.
Students will benefit from group discussion and feedback.
The course includes $50 of materials.
