Unleash your creativity in this one-day ceramics workshop designed for all skill levels! Dive into the world of surface decoration as you create a vibrant platter using techniques like monoprints, layering, stencils, and sgraffito. You'll start by applying a unique monoprint onto a wet clay slab, then add depth with layers, patterns, and textures before shaping your masterpiece into a platter.

Gillian will guide you through key elements of design, including pattern, colour, line, repetition, and texture, helping you bring your artistic vision to life. All materials are provided, although you're encouraged to bring images for inspiration. Once completed, your piece will be dried, clear-glazed, and fired, ready for pickup in 4-5 weeks.

Join us and explore exciting surface treatments in clay art!

About Gillian Hodes

Gillian was introduced to clay as a young child growing in a small country town, in what is now Zimbabwe. She remembers collecting clay from anthills in the bush, hand building small cattle and baking them over an open fire. After a lengthy stint in the corporate world, in 2015 she graduated with a BFA Sculpture from the National Art School in Sydney, following this up with a Diploma in Ceramics from Northern Beaches (Brookvale) TAFE.

In her own ceramics practice, Gillian specialises in hand building porcelain, although she regularly works with all manner of clay. She has taught hand building to both adults and children for 5+ years, hoping to inspire them to fall in love with clay as she did.
