How delving into the otherworld of the universe may one day transform our lives.

There is a mysterious substance always surrounding us. Detecting it would make for one of the major scientific discoveries in our lifetime.

We’re talking about dark matter.

Dr Ciaran O’Hare, a leading theoretical physicist, explains how understanding dark matter may one day change our everyday lives. History shows that the pursuit of apparently impossible feats, like trying to detect invisible substances, is precisely what has led to many of the technological advancements we use every day.

Bio

Dr Ciaran O’Hare is a research fellow at the University of Sydney. He is a leading theoretical physicist working in the area known as astroparticle physics, with a special focus on searching for the elusive dark matter. O’Hare is part of the $35 million Australian Research Council initiative called ‘Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics’, which connects dark matter research between five Australian universities.
