Sunday 6 August 2023 from 2pm to 3pm
In late 1944, Paul Drexler and his parents were arrested by the Gestapo at their home in Spacince, Slovakia, and sent to Sered transit camp. It was there that Paul saw his father for the last time. Before they were forced from their home, Paul’s mother packed two cashmere blankets, gifts from his father.
“When I missed my father and the home life we had in Spancince, I played a game of make-believe with the figures in the frieze of the blanket,” Paul recently reflected.
Join us for this special afternoon of history and storytelling at the Museum, with an inspiring conversation between psychologist Kim Slender, Holocaust survivor Paul Drexler and his daughters Julie and Michelle. You will hear about Paul’s remarkable story of survival and the life he has built in Australia, as well as the importance of Holocaust commemoration for the second generation.
Your ticket includes a Museum entry and access to all of our exhibitions.
Note that the survivor speaking at this event may change if unforeseen circumstances arise.
