Community planting for National Tree Day

Where
Prince Alfred Park
Prince Alfred Park
Chalmers Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010
Planting site is along Cleveland Street. Closest entrance is the one opposite Pitt Street.
When

Sunday 30 July 2023 from 10am to 12pm

or until everything is planted

Get hands-on planting native grasses, groundcovers and flowering herbs in Surry Hills.

Come along and help enhance the meadow habitat being established along Cleveland Street.

We’ll set out 5000 plants including kangaroo grass, barbwire grass and native flowering violets. This will support the local biodiversity including small birds, insect pollinators, lizards and frogs.

Prince Alfred Park was originally a grassy Eucalypt woodland, which was developed as government pasture in the 1900s for livestock grazing. A native meadow was started in the area in 2011 as part of the park upgrade.

Our community planting will start at 10am and finish once everything is planted or by midday.

This is a family-friendly event and parents must supervise their children at all times.

We recommend using public transport as there’s limited parking in the area. Please wear enclosed shoes and dress sun safe. We recommend trousers, hats and long sleeves.

Bring your own water bottle and gardening gloves if you have them. Fruit and water will be available.
