Collagen: Shelf supplement or life-saving medicine?

When

Tuesday 4 April 2023 from 6pm to 7pm

How a clever protein can go from supplement bottles to building our bodies.

Collagen is an ingredient we tend to see a lot of in supermarket supplements. It promises healthy skin, nails and hair and appears in advertisements for beauty rejuvenation. But, how much do you really know about collagen?

Jing will help you understand collagen, the most abundant structural protein in our bodies. And, find out what role this potent protein might play in wound healing and how it may replace donor tissue in the future.

Bio

Dr Jingjing You is a Senior Lecturer of Biomedicine in the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney. Her research aims to develop effective treatments for wound healing, including eye and brain injuries.

As well as academic successes, Jing’s inventions have led to 3 commercial products, including collagen bioinks used to make human cornea. She also established a university-based collagen production facility.

Also speaking at Casa Rosa at 8:00PM is Preethi Mohan

About the venue - Casa Rosa

The Abercrombie has undergone an incredible transformation with three venues now under the one roof.

On ground floor is the Abercrombie’s incredible club space with a state of the art sound system, public bar, and beer garden with a full pub menu and pizza by the slice.

For a more relaxed atmosphere, venture upstairs to Casa Rosa, a playful, late-night Italo-disco cocktail lounge and rooftop terrace with an eclectic mix of DJs on high rotation throughout the week.

Head into the adjoining terraces, for Chippendale's (very) late-night wine bar and shop, Lil Sis. Inspired by the charming ‘cave à vins’ found in the neighbourhoods of Paris.
