Code for Sydney is a volunteer civic innovation organization created by Sydney-area developers, designers, and activists with an interest in solving civic and social problems through the use of technology.
The theme for this month's hack day is Surveillance Society.
Our digital footprint is increasingly being tracked as we go about our everyday tasks. Whether this is the flight tracker to work out if your running late, the device in your pocket waiting to wake up your digital assistant, or the cookies on this website ready to serve up more tempting advertising, surveillance is all around us and only increasing – for good and bad.
Potential areas we can look into could be:
Identifying and warning how we are being tracked right now
Trying to evade surveillance and minimise our digital footprint
Visualizing all the ways we are being monitored
And many more...
Come along, meet new people, brainstorm solutions in our planning session, build proof of concept tools to explore these ideas (AI coding strongly encouraged) and show off what we have built by the end of the session.
If you would like to start early on an idea please do – we would love to see what you come up with and maybe we can find some people to help you make it even better.
Software engineers, designers and student/s welcome!
