Do you want to come and learn in our makerspace at Darling Square Library with your children?

Join this 2-hour session to get hands-on experience with our maker kits, microscopes, marble-run, wind-tube, electronics and robotics kits.

We’ll introduce you to a series of fun projects designed to develop your creative thinking skills. You could learn some basic coding to use a Sphero robot, or build simple circuits. Explore our Little Bits wall or complete a basic laser cutting project by etching a creative design onto perspex.

Each monthly Makertime for families workshop offers 3-4 different activities over the 2-hour session. Please note: while these activities vary each month, we do repeat some activities.

What you’ll have access to:

  • Computing devices: high powered laptops and iPads

  • STEM kits: Makey Makey, M-Bot, Edisons, Ozobots, Spheros and Little Bits

  • Digital microscopes

  • Maker activities: Make-Do, wind tube and marble run

  • Creative activities: Badge making, printmaking and jewellery crafts

  • Fabrication devices: 3D printer & laser cutter (please note: these activities are not offered every session)

Details:

  • Cost: $10 for each child (accompanying adults are free).

  • Bookings and class size: maximum 15 children – bookings essential.

  • Suitable for: 8 to 12 years and their parents or guardians.

  • Experience level: no prior making experience required.

More information:

We think carefully about the suggested age range for our activities and this workshop is only appropriate for children 8-12 years of age.

Bookings can be cancelled up to 7 days before the date of the workshop. Cancellations made within 7 days of the course starting will not be refunded. See terms and conditions

Parents and guardians are encouraged to stay in the makerspace to engage with the activity alongside their child. Parents and guardians not staying in the makerspace are required to stay in the library during the session.

We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs please contact Christie Torrington, Makerspace Programs Coordinator on 9265 9333 or ctorrington@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au
