Clean community festival

Learn about recycling, upcycling, and the circular economy — and have fun doing it! 

This is a full-day, virtual festival, and you can register for one or more 1-hour workshops. Come alone or attend with your friends and family, everyone is welcome :)

9am Turn trash into treasure Wake up your mind with this fun activity for kids and adults alike! During this interactive workshop, you’ll get to search your house for things destined for the trash / op shop, and turn them into treasure! Prizes for the best inventions.

10am Yoga Join us for a free, one-hour yoga session. Whether you’re a beginner or a veteran, this session will be a great way to wake up your body and your mind, and get ready for the day ahead. Come alone, or invite along your whole family!

11am How to save money and waste less Get advice from a panel of experts on how you can save money by reducing waste, reusing items, upcycling and recycling, and becoming part of the circular economy

12pm Lunch break Order lunch from a tasting menu of local restaurants, designed especially for attendees this expo. Support your local, and try something new! Register to access the special menus.

1pm Design Thinking Challenge Designed for families to do together, this is a great introduction to design thinking for kids and parents alike. Our hosts will guide you through the process of coming up with solutions to the question: How do we solve the problem of waste? Prizes for the best ideas!

2pm - 4pm Expo - Smart Waste Hackathon Showcase Watch short presentations from each of the teams that participated in the Smart Waste Hackathon, ask questions and offer them feedback, and vote for your favourite!

Come alone, or bring your family and friends — fantastic to watch as a family, get inspiration for new ideas, and talk about how these solutions could help keep our communities clean.

4pm Trivia & games Experience a full hour of fun, family-friendly trivia and other games where you’ll have fun and learn about recycling, sustainability and more!

Participate on your own, or get your family and / or friends together. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams.

5pm Innovation Showcase Get inspired! See the innovative solutions that came out of the Canterbury Bankstown Council’s Smart Cities Initiative. You’ll see world-first ideas, including an AI that scans recycling to look for contamination.

We’ll also award prizes for the Design Thinking Challenge, and announce the “People’s Choice” favourites from the Smart Waste Hackathon.

6 pm Virtual dance party! Get your fancy dress out and celebrate this beautiful day with a virtual dance party in the comfort of your own home. A family-friendly DJ will spin a fun mix of dance song favourites.
