Christian Thompson AO: Recital

Where
Phoenix Central Park
Phoenix Central Park
37-49 O’Connor Street, Chippendale NSW 2008
When

Thursday 9 March 2023 from 6:30pm to 9pm

Dr Christian Thompson AO presents Recital, a rare performance and first ever rendition of sound work presented to a live audience.

Informed by two decades of recorded sound practice, Recital is a live re-imagining of Thompson's traditional language, Bidjara, and occurs parallel to an exhibition of the artist's newest photographic works at Michael Reid Sydney. An exhibition of Thompson's photographic work will also be shown at Michael Reid Berlin as part of the European Month of Photography 2023.

Now categorised as an extinct language, Recital is the live revival of the Bidjara language, motivated by the notion that just a single spoken word re-classifies it as a living one. Complementing his globally recognised oeuvre of video work, Recital will deliver the sensory experience of language and sound that is powerfully connected to both past and present.
