Oil pastels provide a lot of freedom with their range of colours and textures that can be achieved. Learning to create depth and intrigue in an artwork is often about learning to use colours that complement each other and striking a balance between chaotic and calming mark-making.
There is also a sturdiness to pastels that makes them very therapeutic. You can be rough with them and still create beautiful images. Learning to understand complimentary colours and the importance of mark-making will help us recreate floral images that are lively and expressive.
