To bring the current over-production and over-consumption of clothing back to within planetary boundaries, some studies estimate that a 75 - 90% reduction in primary material consumption is required.
While most approaches to reducing waste in fashion have been directed to recycling and upcycling, a reactive response, what proactive approaches to design can be utilised from the outset?
This showcase presents research being undertaken at UTS into disruptive and innovative textile technologies, and speculative product-service systems in fashion. Central to this activity is the work of the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Fashion & Textiles, which aims to lead the transition of the Australian fashion sector towards Industry 4.0 through integrating cutting-edge technology alongside sustainability best-practice. The Centre’s team will also detail partnership opportunities for their timely and critical research projects.
