Blessing of the Fleet

When

Sunday 15 October from 10am to 3pm

Come down to enjoy free face-painting, delicious food stalls, lively musical performances, and engaging educational exhibits, as well as the famous, historical procession of the Madonna and blessing of our local fishing fleet.

The Blessing of the Fleet is an annual religious tradition adopted by many fishing villages and ports throughout the world to bless the fishing fleet before the opening of the fishing season. The blessing is an opportunity to pray for a good season and the safe return of the fleet at the end of the season. Sydney Fish Market holds an event every year, with help from our local fleet and the multi-generational fishing family, the Bagnatos.

This year, expect a family-friendly festival of epic proportions, including:

  • Face painting

  • Food stalls

  • Educational exhibits

  • Live musical and dance performances

  • Spaghetti eating and prawn peeling competitions

  • Marching band

  • The famous procession of the Madonna

Experience all of the family-friendly excitement on Sunday 15 October, from 10am to 3pm.
