Paper is an awesome material, sometimes fragile and delicate, other times sturdy and strong!
In this trio of classes kids will learn all sorts of paper skills to make pop up cards, kinetic birds and a paper mache bowl. We'll use recycled paper, origami paper and magazines to make something awesome.
Class one will teach students the skill of paper engineering to create a 3D pop up greetings card design. We will look at different folds and techniques that are used in pop-up books. Kids will be encouraged to use collage or draw a character to be placed in a 'pop' up setting whilst learning the art of paper engineering, applying geometry and angles and planning a project.
Class two will explore simple non-messy paper techniques to make small paper bowls that are decorated decoupage style. Kids will be introduced to the structural and sculptural possibilities of paper mache and cardboard.
Class three will teach children how to make cute, fun 'kinetic' rocking paper birds. This project explores concepts of balance to ensure their birds can move convincingly. We will use Australian parrots and cockatoos as an inspiration for bird designs. Kids will collage and draw their birds adding to their knowledge about Australian bird life.
