Saturday 31 August from 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Join us for a tour of selected art galleries in the inner city of Sydney.
We will start at N.Smith Gallery to view Dreaming, a solo exhibition by artist Thea Anamara Perkins. Perkins explores her family's photographic archive through the medium of painting, questioning representations of First Nations peoples and Country and capturing the melancholy that comes from a moment you can no longer access.
We will then continue to Schmick Contemporary, an artist-run initiative, to view a group exhibition of three emerging artists. Fergus Berney-Gibson's work investigates how individual and collective experiences can be reconstructed through an emphasis on desire. Sadie Whelan incorporates painting, drawing and assemblage to explore the presence and absence of human traces. Alice Martin is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work examines the complexities of memory using varied materials to uncover nostalgia and collective memory.
We will conclude our walking tour at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art to view ALAM by Hazara artist, Elyas Alavi. This immersive exhibition highlights significant figures from the queer Muslim diaspora and the advocacy for their identity through symbols, phrases and community codes.
