Thursday 5 October 2023 from 5pm to 8pm
Join us for an evening of storytelling as we explore some of the challenges and triumphs experienced by Jewish families who migrated to Australia in the 20th century.
5:30pm: Olga’s journey to Australia workshop
After surviving the Holocaust, Olga Horak OAM made a new home in Australia with her husband John Horak in 1949. Bring your family and friends along to investigate a suitcase filled with objects Olga took on her journey – replica photos, documents and other artefacts – that will help you build a picture of her incredible life story. This fascinating interactive workshop delves into the rich history of the Holocaust survivor refugees who arrived in Australia.
6:30pm: Bob Cadry – a tapestry of Jewish life
Join us for an intriguing conversation between our Senior Curator, Shannon Biederman and Bob Cadry, whose family’s story is featured in our current exhibition: Woven Memory. Learn about the journey Bob’s family took to Sydney from Tehran, Iran over 70 years ago, and how they came to introduce artisanal Persian carpets to the Australian market, creating one of the nation’s most iconic carpet brands.
This evening is part of our History After Hours series. A ticket includes complimentary refreshments, access to the both the 5.30pm workshop and 6.30pm talk, as well as free entry to the Museum and its exhibitions throughout the evening.
