A young student who is not a fan of reading or libraries spends one memorable night ‘stuck’ in the library, learning that there is far more to discover than they ever imagined. Meeting historical figures and characters from literature, they go on an epic quest under the cover of night, connecting with the human stories behind the library’s vast collection.

Bell Shakespeare takes audiences young and old on a magical journey of discovery exploring the many known and unknown spaces in the library, its collection, and items from the weird to the wonderful. Along the way we meet literary greats, legendary explorers, real people and fictional creations for a madcap adventure of epic proportions. A video backdrop opens doors and invites the audience to explore all that lies hidden behind the scenes of the library.

Fun and informative, A Night at the Library teaches us that the library — and everything in it — belongs to us.

Suitable for ages 8+.

This event is part of the library’s 200th Anniversary Festival, an exciting six-week program of performances, talks and free live music.
