Keeping children and teens entertained in the school holidays can be a tricky business, so we’ve done the hard work for you.
We’ve rounded up some online events and in-person activities to keep your kids occupied. There are things on the list for those in early childhood, primary school and high school.
School is out for most NSW kids from Saturday 26 September to Sunday 11 October.
For young children, aged 0 to 5
Storytime and rhymetime online
Storytelling and singing to enjoy at home. Our librarians present fun storytime sessions for pre-schoolers and rhymetime for 0 to 2 year-olds. There are also AUSLAN storytime videos presented with the Deaf Society that are suitable for deaf and hearing children.

Pretty Little Ballerinas ballet classes
Discover the magic of ballet at Pretty Little Ballerinas from your home. The best part is you can do these classes at any time. You pay a monthly subscription to have access to the library of classes for 2 to 5-year olds.
For primary school-aged children
Sydney FC holiday camps
Boys and girls aged 5 to 13 can enjoy 3 fun-packed days of football at a Sydney FC clinic. They can enjoy a skills boost or simply play with friends. The camps will keep kids engaged.

State Library of NSW school holidays program
The library is running activities online these school holidays. Check out live online workshops with children’s authors, craft workshops and online tours.

For high school students
Young people can learn how to cook delicious nutritious meals from their own kitchen using Jamie Oliver recipes. Over 5 sessions, participants will learn to make key recipes that cover every meal, from breakfast and sides to lunch and dinner. Sessions are held through a live interactive video chat.

Sydney Moves school holidays dance workshops
Learn different styles from professional dancers at these workshops from Shaun Parker and Company. Young people aged 14 and older are invited to learn new skills in 5-day intensive with krumping champion Shutdown.
Seymour Centre, Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October
The acclaimed Belvoir Theatre is running a series of workshops including character development, and costume design. There's also a range of online workshops being held by Jump Start Youth Theatre covering audition skills or intensive acting sessions.
Jump Start Youth Theatre are also running in-person courses at New Theatre in Newtown for K-12.

Free art and maker classes online
Get creative at home with one of our free online classes. From drawing techniques to origami lampshades, learn new creative skills with this series of step-by-step videos presented by experienced artists and makers. All videos have Auslan interpreting and closed captions and the projects are designed for complete beginners aged 15 years and over.
