Sydney Eisteddfod

One of the largest performing arts festivals returns to give Australians their moment in the spotlight

One of the largest performing arts festivals in Australia and New Zealand, Sydney Eisteddfod, is welcoming back young, aspiring artists to the stage.

This is after closing its doors in March 2020 for the first time since World War II due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This meant the compulsory cancellation of over 300 events, impacting 35,000 entrants.

Following a tough year for the performing arts industry with many students forced to practice their skills at home without professional guidance, Sydney Eisteddfod is committed to helping performers re-engage in the arts.

Entries for Sydney Eisteddfod 2021 are open until March 22, 2021. Aspiring performers have the chance to win over $400,000 worth of prizes and scholarships in over 300 performing arts events across dance, drama, music and song running from May to October with in-person and online entry mechanisms available.

Covid-safe information

As and if restrictions change, we may need to adjust and adapt categories and events closer to the time of their performance dates. Entrants are advised to monitor our website and regularly check emails and social media for current and up-to-date information relating to their event, but currently we are in 'all systems go' for all categories of the Festival.

We have planned for and are hoping to hold 'live - on stage' performances for most of our events and can assure our treasured entrants and their families that Sydney Eisteddfod will, in some shape or form, go ahead in 2021.

After consultation with our community, we have been advised that it will be even more challenging for large groups to comply with social distancing and travel rules under Covid-19 restrictions.

Two categories, choirs and instrumental groups will therefore be asked to submit Private Videos Submissions and judges will be asked to come to our office to judge and award prizes.

Prizes will be announced on our social media forum and website as usual.

However, as stated above, if restrictions change, we may need to adjust and adapt categories and events closer to the time of their performance dates.
