Back in the before-times of 2011, Julia Gillard was prime minister, MySpace was still a thing and Game of Thrones was the hot new show. It was, of course, also the year that beloved Australian singer-songwriter WASHINGTON released her eight-song Insomnia EP.
Coming hot on the heels of her star-making 2010 debut album, I Believe You Liar, Insomnia gave us such immaculately-crafted indie-pop gems as ‘Skeleton Key’, ‘Public Pool’ and ‘Plastic Bag’. EP opener ‘Holy Moses’ inspired a dazzling video that showcased WASHINGTON’s inner theatre kid, while ‘Sentimental Education’ BROUGHT ALL THE GOOSEBUMPS LIVE.
In the decade since she first performed Insomnia at Sydney Festival, the three-time ARIA Award winner has released two further albums, including 2020’s rapturously-reviewed Batflowers, and blossomed as a live performer. At Speakers Corner, expect a celebration of WASHINGTON past and present that puts you right in your feelings.
