Set in an elegant, chandelier-hung cabaret room overlooking Sydney Harbour, La Bella Burleschi (meaning beautiful burlesque in Italian) is a burlesque show with a series of short skits celebrating the true tradition of burlesque. Produced and directed by James Karp (The Burlesque Show: “Fantastic show” – Network 10 & Cabaret La Belle Rose: “Just beautiful” – Network 9), you are taken on a discovery of a bygone era of this female artform.
Choreographed by David Camm, the acts are a series of movements built around costumes and burlesque folklore.
Both Karp and Camm are in their element here and would make Ziegfeld Follies proud: they glorify the artform with no naughtiness or nudity. Rather they venerate the traditional burlesque artist with strength, talent, beauty and plenty of feathers and diamantes.
