Towards a COP 31 that works for future generations

When

Wednesday 12 March from 12pm to 1pm

If co-hosted by Australia and the Pacific in 2026, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP) will be the largest climate event and diplomatic exercise held in Australia. More than 30,000 people from 200 countries are expected to attend at a critical moment for climate action. How can such a Conference give genuine voice to the needs, perspectives, and priorities of future generations?

How can we get there?

Hosted by UNICEF Australia, join a cross-sectoral, intergenerational group of leaders and experts for a panel and networking event to address these very questions. Themes will include unpacking meaningful engagement, prioritising marginalised voices, building agency and momentum, and utilising the conference's intricate processes/structures to best achieve inclusion.

The panel will be moderated by Alice Hall, Chief of Staff, UNICEF Australia and will include:

  • A/Prof HY William Chan – Climate Action Week (CAW) Sydney Co-Founder and City of Sydney Emeritus Councillor

  • James Ladbrook – Co-Chair of Leaders 2050 at KPMG and UN Youth Australia Board Member

  • Kesaya Baba – Senior Manager, Strategy and Partnerships for COP 31, WWF Australia

  • Max Thomas – Youth Ambassador, UNICEF Australia and Tuckwell Scholar, ANU
