Tiffany Austin is part of the generation of outstanding young jazz singers that is re-imagining the jazz vocal tradition and finding new pathways forward.
A law graduate from UCLA, with an older brother who’s a celebrated rapper and emcee (Ras Kass) Tiffany Austin, attended the famed Los Angeles High School of the Arts and then enrolled to study creative writing and voice at Cal State Northbridge. A year of further study in the UK saw her hanging out and performing on the London jazz scene.
After a few years of working as an R&B singer in Tokyo, Tiffany received a scholarship to Berkeley Law School. Unable to let go of her passion and talent for music, she would continue performing while maintaining her studies before returning to music full-time upon her graduation. In 2015, she released her first album ‘Nothing But Soul’ which gave her a huge profile with a four-star review in Down Beat.
Her follow-up, ‘Unbroken’ features a stellar line-up of jazz musicians in pianist Cyrus Chestnut, bassist Rodney Whittaker, drummer Carl Allen, and saxophonist Teodross Avery.
On this album, she brings together her love of jazz, soul, R&B, and the blues.
