The Memory Place writing workshop is open to anyone who wants to investigate & write creatively about personal or family history. Working from a memento, treasured object or piece of clothing, participants will weave strands of observation, memory & imagination to draft a poem or short prose piece. Emphasis is on paying attention to detail, drawing connections between things and adding the element of surprise to your writing.
Other things you need to know:
Bring along an object or piece of clothing with special meaning for you. It can be an everyday object or a family heirloom. Whatever you like.
Pens and paper supplied.
Workshop Registration:
A maximum of 15 places are available for this three-hour workshop.
Registration is $30 / $15 concession-holders.
About the Presenter:
Caroline Reid is an award-winning poet, performer and educator who found her feet as a writer in the theatre. Story, humour and a whiff of rage are at the heart of all her art. She is a multi-finalist in the Australian Poetry Slam and her collection SIARAD (ES-Press 2020) won 2nd prize in the UK Indie Poetry Book Awards. Her poems have won the Woollahra Digital Literary Award, the Mslexia Prize (UK) and been highly commended in the Gwen Harwood Poetry Prize. Caroline writes to remember, reflect, reinvent and connect. About this project:
This event is part of the Imaginative Recreation Project presented by Spineless Wonders with the support of the City of Sydney's Cultural Grant. The year-long project about lesser-known aspects of Sydney's history features public talks, writing workshops, live performances as well a Sonic City - Sydney, a digital map with location-based audio stories. A call out for startling stories about Sydney's past is currently open. Entries are free and the deadline is December 17, 2023.
