Saturday 17 February from 11am to 1pm
Organised by the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University, this event will launch the book titled ‘The China Australia Migration Corridor: history and heritage’ (Melbourne University Press) about the legacy and heritage of Chinese migration to Australia from the 1840s to the present day.
The following three guest speakers will give a brief introduction to the book and engage in discussion with the book's authors and the audience about the history of Chinese migration to Australia and aspects of the preservation of Chinese Australian heritage.
Dr Sophie Loy-Wilson, Senior Lecturer in Chinese Australian history, the University of Sydney
Ms Ann Toy, museum curator and board member of the Museum of Chinese in Australia (MOCA) in Sydney
Mr Douglas Lam, a member of the Chung Shan Society of Australia and genealogy hunter who helps Chinese diasporas trace their ancestral roots in Zhongshan
Admission to the event is free, but booking is essential. Light refreshments will be provided.
As we reflect on the past of Chinese Australian history and look forward to the future, this book launch will be a good opportunity for the wider community to network and celebrate the Year of the Dragon together.
