Understanding legal rights and responsibilities might not be the most interesting aspect of professional creativity, but managing the basics is essential to surviving and thriving as an artist and creator.
The Art of Law is a relaxed and friendly online workshop that covers those necessary basics, that will help participants avoid most common pitfalls when making professional relationships with customers and clients. In this workshop, every question is a good question, and we’ll also share more details about where to go for help, and what resources are available to empower creatives to manage the basics of their own legal affairs.
Legal topics that will be covered and discussed include:
The basics of intellectual property and why it’s important.
Who owns copyright and using the work of others.
Creating contracts to protect professional relationships.
The three essential elements of moral rights law.
Understanding the importance of confidentiality law.
Resources from the Arts Law Centre of Australia, the Copyright Council and other leading legal organisations will be shared, including links for legal assistance.
