Madison Baird observes the ways bodies unconsciously communicate their emotions. Through the tilt of a head, the folding of arms or twist of interlaced fingers the body enacts a physical performance of what can’t be said. These figures offer passage into a nuanced dialogue between an external and internal world.
Kate Riley’s practice uses organic and found materials to build forms with character and personality. Stacked components of ceramic drip with gold and shine as they teeter precariously skyward.
Belinda Skyring’s work is influenced by her life drawing experience. She explores pose, gesture and form to evoke an emotive response. The work lies at the junction between representation and abstraction.
Imogen Welch tightly crops and reproduces figures using energetic but deliberate strokes of saturated colour. The isolation of small sections of an image, readable as figures but removed from their larger context, results in a very particular form of attention.'
