Three of Australia’s leading Persian musicians: Hamed Sadeghi, Esfandiar Shahmir and Pedram Layegh join for one night only to perform Sweet Persia, an evening focussed on the deeply moving and romantic sounds of the middle east.

The trio will perform both original compositions and traditional Iranian, Arab and Turkish pieces throughout the 60 minute concert, set amongst the curated works of Matteo Bernasconi.

Esfandiar Shahmir is a world class Daf and Ney player. Born in Tehran, Esfandiar studied Theatre/Acting while learning Persian classical music. Esfandiar is renowned for his work with the traditional Iranian music ensemble “Homay & Mastan”, led by singer, poet and composer Parvaz Homay.

In 2009 Government officials banned the ensemble from performing in Iran, which kicked off their international touring career that took them to places such as the US, Canada and Europe. Since he moved to Australia in 2013, Esfandiar has been collaborating with Australian ensembles such as Kohesia Ensemble, Kate Pass and Eastwinds, as well as tours nationally for Musica Viva Australia as well as other Australian Festivals

Hamed Sadeghi is a multi-Aria nominated tar, setar and oud player, composer and producer based in Sydney, Australia. He Studied persian classical music in Tehran and published a book “Ganjineye Tar”, a collection of all pieces from maestro Ali Akbar Khan Shahnazi. He currently leads Eishan Ensemble who have recently played at festivals such as Sydney Festival and WOMAD.

Iranian-born, Pedram Layegh, began his musical studies under the guidance of acclaimed Iranian guitar teachers, Farhad Faghihnia and Touraj Dadyan. Following his move to Australia he studied Classical Music at the Australian Institute of Music and regularly with local groups and with visiting international artists such as the renowned Kurdish singer, Adnan Karim.

This will be a rare opportunity to witness these world class musicians at the beautiful Peach Black Gallery. The gallery has created a name for itself as a space that celebrates both visual and performing arts, with carefully curated events by visual artist Matteo Bernasconi and Music Promoter Anna Griffiths.
